When Agoric’s team announced the launch of Incentivized Testnet on their network, I knew I had to be part of this. I’ve been following the project for a long time and was part of their Testnet since the early days of 2021.
Agoric is built on Tenderming consensus and Cosmos SDK. One of the most exciting things this year was the launch of IBC (Inter-Blockchain Communication) during the Stargate upgrade, which will enable blockchains on Cosmos to connect with each other.
What is Incentivized Testnet?
It is a series of competitive challenges for active validators, in order to prepare the Agoric network for it’s mainnet launch. It consist of 5 phases and is limited to 150 seats. Each phase is designed to test different aspects of the network, such as security, validation, staking, stress tests, etc.
The goal of this part of the testnet is to:
1. Secure the Network
2. Train and prepare Validators for mainnet launch.
3. Grow community around the globe.
Points and Rewards
Participants need to complete tasks and win challenges. For that they earn points which will be later, when the mainnet launches, converted to tokens. There is over 1,000,000 tokens allocated for participation rewards during the following phases:
- Staking Dynamics
- Stress Test
- Adversarial Testnet
Points submission process
I like this part. Agoric’s team has used knack.com to connect and integrate their submission process for all of the tasks during the Incentivized Testnet. It’s really simple and it works. The process is straightforward and makes it easy to submit, review and edit all of the tasks.
So far the experience in the testnet has been very enjoyable and I’m learning new things every day. At the time of writing this article, we are finishing Phase II where we have started new Genesis events, tested the load bursts across the network, jailed/unjailed our nodes, as well as installed the Node Exporter OS which exposes hardware metrics and can be also used for server analytics.
Thanks for reading. I’ll be reviewing the Phase III soon.
